How to play 8-ball pool online
To break, place the cue ball behind the dashed line and hit the rack. The table stays “open” until someone pockets a ball after the break: whoever first pockets a solid (1 to 7) gets the solids, and the other player gets the stripes (9 to 15). While you keep pocketing balls from your group, you keep shooting.
To aim, tap or click the table and drag: the cue points to where your finger is. Fine-tune with the spin buttons or the arrow keys, pick the power on the bar and tap “Shoot” (or press Space). You can also pull the cue straight back: tap near the cue ball, drag backward and release. The guide line shows where the cue ball will hit and where the struck ball will go.
It is a foul to scratch the cue ball, hit nothing, hit a ball that is not yours first, or have no ball hit a cushion after contact. After a foul, your opponent gets ball in hand: they drag the cue ball wherever they want. Once you have pocketed your whole group, tap a pocket to call the 8-ball and sink it there to win. Pocketing the 8 too early, in the wrong pocket or together with the cue ball is a loss.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between pool and snooker?
Pool is a family of games played on a table with pockets. This game follows 8-ball, the most played version in bars: 7 solids, 7 stripes and the black 8-ball, which decides the match. Snooker is played on a much bigger table with 22 balls and points for each color.
What does calling the 8-ball pocket mean?
When only the 8-ball is left for you, you have to say in advance which pocket it will go into. Here you do that by tapping the pocket, which is highlighted in yellow. If the 8 goes into another pocket, you lose.
Does the computer play well?
It tests dozens of possible shots with the same physics as the game before it chooses. On Easy it misses its aim a lot; on Hard it almost never misses and still thinks about where the cue ball will end up.
