How to play Falling Blocks
Pieces made of four little squares drop one at a time onto a 10-by-20 board. Move, rotate and fit each piece to build complete horizontal lines: every full line disappears and the rows above it drop down.
On a computer, use the arrow keys to move, the up arrow (or X) to rotate, Z to rotate the other way, the down arrow to drop faster and Space to drop it instantly. C holds the piece for later and P pauses. On your phone, use the buttons or swipe on the board: drag to move, tap to rotate, flick down to drop and flick up to hold.
Every 10 lines you go up a level and the pieces fall faster. Clearing several lines at once is worth a lot more: 4 lines together give you 800 points times your level. The dotted shadow shows where the piece will land, and the “Next” box shows what’s coming. The game ends when there’s no room left for the next piece to enter.
Frequently asked questions
What is hold for?
You can pull the current piece out of play and save it for later, swapping it with whatever was being held. It’s great for saving the long straight piece until you’ve built a 4-line gap. You can only hold once per piece.
Are the pieces dealt out fairly?
Yes. The 7 pieces come in “bags”: each one shows up exactly once every 7, in random order. That way you never go too long without the piece you need.
Is my high score saved?
It’s saved in your browser, on this device. If you clear your browser data or play on another phone, your high score starts over from zero.
