Golf Solitaire
Golf Solitaire right in your browser: tap the bottom card of any column when it’s one higher or one lower than the waste card, and clear the table.
How to play Golf Solitaire
The game starts with 35 face-up cards in 7 columns of 5, one card on the waste pile and 16 cards in the stock. The goal is to clear every card from the columns.
Tap the last card of a column (the one on top of the others) if it’s one higher or one lower than the waste card, in any suit: on a 6 you can play a 5 or a 7. Under classic rules ranks don’t wrap around: only a 2 goes on an Ace, and nothing can be played on a King.
When there’s no move, tap the stock to flip a new card onto the waste pile. The stock doesn’t recycle: once it’s empty and there are no moves left, the game ends, and the cards left in the columns are your score. Just like in golf, lower is better.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this solitaire called Golf?
Because of the scoring: at the end you count the cards still in the columns, and the lower the number the better, just like strokes in golf. Clearing every column is a perfect round.
What happens when a King goes on the waste pile?
Under classic rules nothing can be played on a King, so your only option is to flip a card from the stock. That’s why, before playing a King on a Queen, check whether another move would make better use of the waste card.
Is every game of Golf Solitaire winnable?
No. Since all the cards are face up, you can plan a lot, but the stock comes in random order and many deals can’t be cleared. Try to build long streaks before flipping the next card from the stock.
