How to play Solitaire

The goal is to move all 52 cards to the 4 foundation piles at the top, one for each suit, in order from Ace up to King.

In the 7 columns below, cards go down in descending order and alternate colors: a black 8 goes on a red 9, for example. You can move a whole run at once, and only a King (or a run starting with a King) can fill an empty column.

When you’re out of moves, tap the stock to flip cards: 1 at a time in easy mode or 3 at a time in classic mode, which is a lot harder. Tapping a card sends it to the best spot automatically, and the “Undo” button takes back your last move.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between draw 1 and draw 3?

With draw 1 you see every card in the stock on each pass, so almost every game is winnable. With draw 3, only the top card of each group of three is playable, which makes Solitaire much more challenging.

Is every game of Solitaire winnable?

No. Roughly 80% of Klondike deals are thought to be solvable in theory, but since you can’t see the face-down cards, you won’t always find the winning path.

Is this the same Solitaire that came with Windows?

Yes, the rules are the same as the classic Klondike Solitaire from Windows. Here you can play Solitaire online for free in your browser, with nothing to install, on your phone too.
