How to play Yahtzee

On your turn you roll the 5 dice up to 3 times. After each roll, tap the dice you want to keep (they turn yellow) and roll only the others. You can stop before the third roll when you like the result.

At the end, record the result in an open category on the scorecard: Ones to Sixes add up only the dice showing that number; Three of a kind and Four of a kind add all the dice; Full house (three of a kind + a pair) is worth 25, Small straight (4 in a row) is worth 30, Large straight (5 in a row) is worth 40, Yahtzee (5 of a kind) is worth 50 and Chance adds all the dice. If nothing fits, you must score zero in one category.

If your upper section (Ones to Sixes) totals 63 or more, you earn a 35-point bonus. Each extra Yahtzee, after you have scored 50 in Yahtzee, is worth 100 bonus points and works as a wild card for the Full house and straights. After 13 rounds, the player with the most points wins.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same game as Yahtzee?

The rules are those of the 5-dice, 13-category game that became famous as Yahtzee (a trademark of another company). It is also known generically as a dice scorecard game.

Is it worth chasing the 35-point bonus?

Yes. To reach 63 you only need three of each number, from Ones to Sixes. Four Sixes or four Fives can make up for a weak round on the low numbers.

How does the computer play?

On the hard level it calculates the odds of each way to keep dice on the next rolls and picks the category by thinking about the rest of the scorecard. On the easy level it just keeps the number that came up most.
